Community Service Opportunities

If you are looking to join the National Honor Society or earn volunteer hours for the Community Service Diploma Endorsement, then this site is for you.  Maybe, you want to devote your time to something that gives you purpose and meaning.  Whichever is the case, subscribe to this site for regular updates on volunteer opportunities and service - learning projects.  After subscribing, you will receive a verification email from FeedBurner Email Subscriptions.  You will need to click the link listed in the message to activate your subscription. Volunteers Needed: Kids Pie Run Party

Student volunteers are needed to assist on the course and with the Kids Pie Run Party that will immediately follow the Pie Run.  Student volunteers are needed Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 from 7:00am - 12:00pm.

 Volunteers needed to help with the Louisiana High School State Wrestling Championships in Bossier

  You can help with one day or both.  You can also help with multiple shifts if you would like.

 Location: CenturyLink Center in Bossier City

 Volunteers needed to help on the Scoring table:

 Friday Feb 16

 Scoring Table volunteers

(Knowledge of the sport a plus but not a must and advance training will be available)

             1st shift: 8am noon  (need 6 more volunteers)

2nd shift:  11:30am – 4pm (need 9 more volunteers)

             3rd shift: 3:30pm – until  (need 12 more volunteers)

 Saturday Feb 17

             Scoring Table volunteers

(Knowledge of the sport a plus but not a must and advance training will be available)

             1st shift: 9am noon (need 4 more volunteers)

2nd shift:  11:30am – 4pm (need 11 more volunteers)


Volunteers will get a meal for each shift you work and a Sports Commission Shirt if they do not already have one.

Shreveport Water Works Museum: Food Trucks at the Museum

Shreveport Water Works Museum is seeking volunteers for Food Trucks at the Museum, a day filled with food, food, food, live music, food, tours of the waterworks, fun things to buy, events for the kids, events for the adults, and food. The event is 11-3, but volunteers would be needed between 10-4.  To learn more about the event, click here.  To volunteer, contact Maria Schmelz at or 318-286-9101.

Prudential Spirit of Community Award- Deadline November 7, 2017

Prudential Spirit of Community Award

If you have participated in community service activities over the past year, please fill out an online application at by November 7, 2017. By doing so, you qualify to be nominated as Caddo Magnet High School’s top youth volunteer for state-level honors.
The school’s honoree will receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award and will become eligible to win an unrestricted award of $1000 or more, a beautifully engraved medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C., next spring for four days of special recognition events.
 In addition, Caddo Magnet High School will recognize top applicants for their volunteer service by presenting them with Prudential Spirit of Community Award certificates.

Providence House Youth Advisory Council (YAC)

Providence House is looking for energetic, service minded youth leaders to participate in their Youth Advisory Council (YAC).  YAC members will learn about board administration, service, fundraising, and philanthropy by being engaged with all activities of the agency.  You will receive training on efforts to break the homeless cycle and how to enjoy a lifetime of community service.

The application and guidelines for participating in YAC are listed below.   The application must be submitted no later than Friday, October 27, 2017.  Information can be submitted by:

Riverside Elementary Fall Festival

Riverside Elementary is having our annual fall festival October 24 (Tuesday) from 4:30-7:30.  We desperately need some help from some wonderful high school students to help sell candy, man jumpy houses, etc.  The festival is a lot of fun and cannot be a success without help from you all.  If you are interested in helping, please contact Emily Claycomb at 318-518-7960.  

AC Steere Fall Carnival

AC Steere is looking for high school students that need volunteer hours to work their fall carnival October 26th 4:30-8:30. They'll need help with set up, games, bounce houses, and cleanup. Get Involved…  At Providence House, depends on  volunteers to support their families, their events, and an array of projects and services throughout the year. We are invited  to help “break the homeless cycle one family at a time” . . . with the gift of our time, talent & energy!  All opportunities are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, unless noted otherwise.

Serve-a- Meal
We served approximately 50,000 meals in 2016. You can provide a meal for our families or you can serve the meal we prepare. Seven Days a week. Lunch is served at noon and dinner is served at 4:45 pm weekdays and 4:30 pm on weekends.

Tutor a School Age Child
Assist our school age children with their homework (not necessary to be a teacher) on Monday afternoons, 4 pm - 4:45 pm. Each student is on a different level, and tutors give them the individualized attention they need to succeed.

Organizing Donations and Supplies
Help keep these items organized as they are received.

Cleaning Services
Providence House residents are responsible for keeping the facility clean, but from time to time we need a little extra help with the major projects like cleaning the floors, dusting the blinds, and cleaning the windows.

Host a Supply Drive for MUCH needed items such as: 
Diapers, all sizes/ Baby wipes Lysol Disinfectant Spray/Lysol Wipes
Paper Towels/Toilet Paper/Tissue
Trash Bags -13, 30 and 55 Gallon
Laundry Detergent (powder)/ Bleach
60W Light Bulbs
Pine Sol/Fabuloso floor cleaner
Bath towels/ Pillow
Feminine Hygiene Products
